India lost 0–2 to Spain in their FIH Men’s Pro League match after failing to convert chances at both ends of the field.

India had begun the game on the front foot, passing quickly and pressing high, but the opening goal came from Spain’s first clear move forward. Spain took the lead early in the sixth minute when Ignacio Abajo slipped into the circle and finished from close range.

The Indian side tried to respond soon after. Abhishek tested the Spanish goalkeeper with a strong effort towards the end of the first quarter, but the shot was blocked. Play opened up in the second quarter with both teams pushing forward. Spain earned a penalty corner in the 24th minute, only for Suraj Karkera to make a timely save and keep India within reach.

Spain came out even more offensive after halftime. In the 36th minute, the lead was doubled by Ignacio Cobos who found space near the goal and took the chance. The Spanish side continued to win penalty corners through the third quarter, though India avoided conceding again.

Looking for a way back in the final phase of the match, India won their first penalty corner late in the fourth quarter but could not convert the opportunity. They even removed their goalkeeper in the last four minutes to add another attacker, but Spain defended deep and saw out the remaining time.

India now travel to Hobart, where they will face hosts Australia in their next Pro League fixture on Sunday.
